Heart Of A Warrior Part 1 – “Follow Me”

United States Army Infantry motto: FOLLOW ME.

Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

“Of all branches in the U.S. Army, the Infantry is unique because its core competency is founded on the individual Soldier; the Infantry rifleman. While other branches tend to focus on weapon systems and platforms to accomplish their mission, the Infantry alone relies almost exclusively on the human dimension of the individual rifleman to close with and destroy the enemy. This Soldier-centric approach fosters an environment that places the highest value on individual discipline, personal initiative, and performance-oriented leadership. The Infantry ethos is encapsulated by its motto: Follow Me!” – U.S. Army Infantry Field Manual

1. Individual DISCIPLINE – Assume PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY in your relationship with Jesus and in living the life He has called you to live.

1Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Make a commitment and the disciplined EFFORT to FULFILL it.

2. Personal INITIATIVE – Don’t WAIT on someone else to move.

Philippians 3:17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.

3. PERFORMANCE-oriented LEADERSHIP – Lead by EXAMPLE.

1Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Titus 2:7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good.

Matthew 5:14-16 14You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Application:

1) IDENTIFY an area of your life in attitude, thought, word, or deed at home, at work, at church, or any other relationship that is not up to God’s standard.

2) ASK the Holy Spirit to help you to become disciplined in that area. Tool: Constantly ask yourself, “What Would Jesus Do?”

3) TAKE the RESPONSIBILITY to make the change and to set an example for those around you.
